THE BEST OF PERU AND BOLIVIA

Peru and Bolivia are two countries rich in culture and nature. During this trip, discover the towns and tourist attractions of the coast of Peru and the Andes. Visiting the many historical, cultural and natural monuments such as the fauna of Paracas, the mysterious Nazca lines, the legendary Titicaca Lake and Machu Picchu. Bolivia, on the other hand, shows one of the most amazing and spectacular natural landscapes and  plateaus, such as South Lopez, an arid desert region to over 4000 meters in height or 13.00 feet, which mountains are reflected in the calm waters of the lagoons, such as Laguna Colorada, which is also inhabited by the famous pink flamingos. 

Speaking about beauty and wealth, Bolivia has the great Salar de Uyuni, a huge white salt desert unique in the world; Potosi is also a city of colonial foundations, due to the exploitation of the silver mines of Cerro Rico that it is possible to see today.

DAY 2: Lima - Paracas

Half day tour to discover the main tourist attractions of the capital, Lima. We start by visiting by the historical colonial part of the city, starting at the main square, then the Government Palace, the Cathedral, the church and monastery of San Francisco, one of the oldest in the city, and its catacombs. Then, visit the modern part of the city, like Miraflores and Larcomar viewpoint, located along the Pacific Ocean. Return to hotel. 

Option 1: Lunch in a traditional restaurant in the bohemian district of Lima, Barranco. 

Option 2: For those who have one more day in Lima you can visit the museums (Museo Larco, National Museum and / or the Gold Museum). In the evening possibility to visit the famous sightseeing bus in Waters Park.

Day 3: Paracas - Nazca

In the morning transfer to the port of Paracas to go bu boat to the Ballestas Islands, to see the abundant marine life in these islands: sea lions, sea birds such as herons, gulls, pelicans, penguins and much more. Also in the way, we will stop to see the impressive carved candlestick on the dune, visible only from the sea which is from unknown origin. This tour lasts approximately 2h30. Return to the pier during the morning, and then continue transportation to Nazca. Arrival at the end of the day and transfer to your hotel.

Optional: On the way Paracas / Nazca, there is the city of Ica, where you can do some adventure sports in the dunes like the Buggy and Sunboarding. But it is only possible if the drive is in a private vehicle.

Day 4: Nazca - Arequipa

In the morning, we head to Nazca, to get into the wilderness and visit the pre-Columbian cemetery of Chauchilla, ceremonial center that still retains mummies over 1000 years old. 

In the afternoon, bus to the city of Arequipa. This route is the longest of the whole trip that lasts about 9-10 hours. Reception and transfer to your hotel.

Optional: In Nazca you have the possibility to overflight Nazca Lines, to see its enigmatic and impressive figures.

Day 5: Arequipa - Santa Catalina Convent

Morning tour of the splendid "White City" of Arequipa. We begin our tour of the Plaza de Armas, a Jesuit church, one of the best preserved churches of the city where we will see masterpieces of art work. Then we continue to the Mirador de Yanahuara for a panoramic view of the city and the surrounding volcanoes, especially the Misti.

Finally visit of the Monastery and Convent of Santa Catalina, where there are some of the best works of religious art from the Spanish era.

Day 6: Arequipa - Colca

This day we are heading towards the Colca Valley, to the village of Chivay. This is the way where we pass the highest pass of the journey in Peru to over 4900 meters above sea level, 0r 15.00 feet. From this point, we will see the volcanoes of this region. Continuing to the Aguada Blanca National Reserve, comprising an area inhabited by vicunas (Famous for its wool). Then, we descend into the Colca Valley, with a beautiful view of agricultural terraces in large numbers actually worked by local inhabitants. Arrival in Chivay around midday. Free lunch. 

Free afternoon to visit the local market and then enjoy the thermal baths of Caleras. (Entrance not included).

DAY 7: Mirador of the Condors - Puno

Early in the morning we leave by bus to the viewpoint of the condors. A magical event to observe condors very closely. 

In addition to an impressive view of the famous Colca Canyon, with a depth of over 1200 meters. Then, return to Chivay after visiting some local villages as Yanque, Maca, Pinchollo, among others.

In the afternoon, ride to Puno, located on the banks of the legendary Titicaca Lake. Arrival by the end of the day and transfer to the hotel.

Day 8: Lake Titicaca: Uros Islands - Taquile

Tour on the legendary Titicaca Lake, located 3810 meters above sea level. Pick up from your hotel early in the morning and transfer to the dock to take the boat to take us to the Uros island, made entirely of reeds and where its inhabitants live for many centuries. Here you can climb on one of these traditional boats called "Caballito de Totora" and take a short walk. Then we continue to the island of Taquile. Here we will go walking to the top of the island that rewarded us with a magnificent view of the lake and the surrounding mountains. Taquile is an ancient town with terraced fields on a wide expanse, confirming the great industriousness of its inhabitants since many centuries. It is also a town that lives according to ancestral customs and laws. The men of this island developed a system of tissue in very particular Alpaca wool such as chullos.

Day 9: Puno - Desaguadero - La Paz Bolivia

Morning departure to Bolivia, via Desaguadero, where we must register to enter in the country. In Bolivia, we will visit the archaeological complex of Tiwanaku, with its temples and palaces built with enormous lithic, worked with an admirable mastery.

Arrival in La Paz late in the day. Transfer to hotel.

DAY 10: La Paz - Visit of a city

Visit of the different attractions in the city of La Paz, such as: The Temple of San Francisco, la plaza de los heroes, the Church of the Recoleta, the Witches Market, Museum of Ethnography and folklore, the Government Palace, the house Culture and the Mirador Killi-Killi.

DAY 11: La Paz - Uyuni

This day we will move towards the great Salar de Uyuni. On the way, we pass the city of Oruro, Bolivian folkloric capital, located 230 km from La Paz. And then continue to Uyuni.

Through a paved parts and parts only a distance of 314km unpaved road. 

 Arrival in Uyuni at night and installation in the hotel.

DAY 12: Uyuni - Incahuasi Island

Morning departure in 4x4 vehicles to explore the Salar de Uyuni, a huge desert of salt, unique in the world with more than 12,000 square kilometers. The panorama that you will see is indescribable. Our first stop will be at the heart of the Salar, Incahuasi Island of volcanic origin, where you can see giant cactus. At midday, lunch picnic in the Salar. Then we will see the Eyes of Salt and Colchani, where you can see even the salt exploitation with traditional methods. Finally we pass by the train cemetery.

Return to Uyuni and accommodation in the hotel of your choice.

DAY 13: Uyuni - Potosi

This day we continue our way in the bus to the city of Potosi. Arrival around midday, and accommodation at the hotel. During the afternoon, visit the silver mine of Cerro Rico, which is still active today. You can enter in one of the galleries accompanied by a local miner to observe the extraction of silver, and then also visit the "Casa de la Moneda", where the first coins of America where designed..

This day, we will travel to Bolivia official capital, Sucre. In the afternoon we will visit the city with its several colonial monuments in the historic center, such as Freedom House, where independence was declared, the convent of La Recoleta with a beautiful point of view of the city, and the Textil Museum. Day 15: Flight Sucre - La Paz - Puno
During the morning at the scheduled time, transfer to Sucre airport to take the flight back to La Paz. Arrival at the International Airport Alto - La Paz. Then, travel by bus to the city of Puno. Transfer to your hotel.

DAY 16: Puno - Cusco

This day, we head towards the imperial city of Cusco. On the way you can visit places like Pukara. Then, in the region of Cusco we visit the archaeological complex of Raqchi, which has important temples of the Incas and circular buildings that once served as barns of this region. In the afternoon, we will visit the Church of Andahuaylillas, better known as the Sistine Chapel of the Andes by the wealth of art and sculptures inside.  

Arrival in Cusco at the end of the day and transfer to your hotel.

DAY 17: Sacred Valley of the Incas: Chinchero - Maras - Moray
Day dedicated to the visit of one of the slopes of the Sacred Valley. Our first stop is in the picturesque village of Chincheros, visit of the Inca archaeological complex, with a beautiful Colonial Church built on an ancient Inca temple.

This town is also known for the fair of local vegetable and fruit market where take place on Sunday the famous barter or exchange of products as in the past.

 At the end of the day, return to Cusco.

DAY 18: Pisac - Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes Train

We will visit  the other side of the Sacred Valley of the inkas. Our first stop will be the town of Pisac, to visit its beautiful colonial church and its traditional market in the main square. Then, climb to the top of the mountain where you will find the inca site of Pisac, an archaeological complex featuring several sectors as the Intihuatana or Temple of the Sun and pisaqa, area neighborhood and religious buildings in the administrative sector, where living people are responsible  for the administrations, Enjoy its numerous terraces of fertile farmland in the valley.  

Around midday, we head to Urubamba capital of the Sacred Valley, where we stop  for a free lunch. During the afternoon, visit of the great Inca ruins of Ollantaytambo, before taking the train to Aguas Calientes, also named as Machu Picchu pueblo, where we will spend the night.

DAY 19: Machu Picchu - Cusco

Finally came the great day visiting Machu Picchu, considered as one of the great wonders of the world.

Pick up from your hotel early in the morning to take the bus up to the Inca citadel. Guided visit for 3 hours of the different sectors of this complex such as: the agricultural sector, urban sector, the religious sector and industrial sector. Then, you can take some time to have some additional walks freely, like going to the Inti Punku or Sun Gate for a panoramic view of the entire complex.
