Choquequirao trek during 5 days
The trek of Choquequirao promises a lot of surprises!
Choquequirao means in Quechua, “gold cradle”. It's an Inca ruins city at the south of Peru. It is famous as the Machu Picchu’ sister, because it has a lot of similitudes in the structure and architecture.
During the trek, we will discover an exceptional fauna and flora get accustomed to the changes of temperatures.
Fauna: condors, vizcachas, foxes, cockers, hummingbirds...
Flora: ferns, ichu, orchids...
During the trip, you can discover landscapes of mountains with snow-covered summits, rivers, canyons, waterfalls and valleys.
Early in the morning, we will go from Cusco to Abra de Curahuasi, located at 3 600 meters of altitude. Then, we will go at the Cachora village where we will meet our porters before start the trek of 5 hours.
On our way, we can discover the big canyon Del Purimac. Next, we will reach our camp at Chikiska, it's a big snow-covered mountain.More informations about Cusco
After the breakfast, we will go down the Apurimac River, where we will go for a trek during 2 hours. We will reach the canyon of Apurimac where we will have a beautiful panorama, composed of snow-covered mountains. Furthermore, we will see beautiful half-tropical vegetation.
After that, we will cross a bridge to rise during around 2 hours to Marampata where our second camp is located. Before getting there, we will visit "Santa Rosa" where we will assist to a handmade preparation of cañazo (alcohol).
In the morning, we will take a breakfast before start our trek for 3 hours to Sunchupata. On the road, we will discover the Inca city of Choquequirao.
We will visit this magic place full of energy and culture. We will see the sacred springs, the towers, the agricultural esplanades. The ruins are built of terraces at different levels.
After the breakfast, we will visit the archeological site of Choquequirao and if we have chance, we will observe a flight of condor. What's more, we will see the Apurimac Canyon.
Then, we will begin the drop to Chikiska with a trek of 6 hours. We will camp in Chikiska where you can take a relaxing bath in the river.
