DAY 1: CUSCO – QUILLARUMIYOC – TARAWASI –CONDORS CANYON – CUSCO
Departure from Cusco at 7 am, in direction to the archeological complex of Quillarumiyuc, where we can find the moon and fertility temple.
Continuing our path, we will go down to Tarawasi. Located at 77 km away from Cusco. It is famouse for its inca architecture: two superposed platforms built with some stones. We have also to point out the fact that the walls that support the little platform have 28 trapezoidal niches of 2m x 20 cm each one. 12 niches are located at the East, where the sun gets out and rises on Apu Salkantay. It’s a performance of the inca architecture which is unique, and which have the function of a checkpoint on the way to Cusco. The ceremonies which took place there, were intended to the Sun, Mother Earth and to the Apu Salkantay.
After that, we will reach Chonta to appreciate our lunch with a wonderful view on the Salkantay snowy mountain.
After the lunch, we will start to go up on foot to the mirador, during one hour approximately.
Chonta is located in Limatambo community (one of the most important streams of the inca’s era, place of sourcing, control and rest, which can be observed as much to the exit than to the entry. Limatambo used to be a path to Chinchaysullo), in Anta province, Cusco department. From there, we can see the condor’s mirador which is located on the left side of the Apurimac River, at 3350 meters of altitude. Its Andean name means “the house of the Inca sacred bird”. This part of the Andes is a sacred and magic place, with its canyon of the Apurimac River and its natural paradise of the condors. Arriving to this place, we can observe the magical flight of the sacred birds.
The Andean condor will fly a long time in front of us, using thermal currents of the Apurimac canyon which can reach up to 7000 meters of altitude, and then they can just glide for thousands kilometers without using their wings.
At the end of the day, we will go back to Cusco, arriving at 8 pm approximately.
